ls&i consolidation (2-8-0) with DCC/sound
This was a fairly easy conversion project. I took a DCC-ready Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 Consolidation and stripped it down to basic black paint. I also tore it apart to expose the isolated frame with motor. I then disconnected the track to motor wires and re-routed the track pick-up wires back through the cab. I searched eBay to find a Bachmann DCC/Sound-equipped tender, and found a perfect match from a K4 Pacific. I disassembled the tender and routed the motor wires up to the locomotive, and then soldered the track pick-up wires from the locomotive to the tender/decoder pickup wires. A little touch-up paint with some LS&I decals, and it's a reasonable representation of the mainstay locomotive in the LS&I stables for most of the 20th century.
