new york central

Spanning multiple states throughout the eastern United States, the New York Central was one of the most successful railroads in the country for most of the 20th century. Competing with multiple other railroads for midwestern supremacy, the NYC and its successors (Penn Central; Conrail) had several routes in Michigan. Within my eras of interest, railroads of NYC lineage interchanged with the Ann Arbor in Toledo, Pittsfield, Ann Arbor, and Owosso.  â€‹

Thankfully, in my 1/160 universe, time can be randomly frozen between the 1920s and 1980s. If the dice is rolled correctly and comes up between 1920 and 1969, you can find a full complement of accurate NYC and heritage equipment providing services on the lower deck of my layout. If you visit my layout when it is set up to operate between 1968-1976, you'll find appropriate Penn Central equipment blended with NYC survivors, and if you land in 1976 or beyond, the merged PC/NYC roster gets mixed in with new Conrail equipment.

A wide variety of high-quality N Scale DCC/Sound-equipped NYC locomotives are available from Atlas, Bachmann, Broadway Limited Imports, and several other manufacturers. Shown here are an Atlas GP-7 and a Bachmann 4-6-4 Hudson; not shown, but on my NYC roster, are a couple of customized Atlas RS-1s with sound and DCC added, along with a BLI Mikado for steam era freight and a BLI PA-1/PB-1 lash-up for late era passenger services.
